August 5, 2011 - CFMRI 7T Update.
It is a pleasure to announce that the new 7T magnet has been successfully installed and is now available to support your imaging-related research. The manufacturer (Bruker) encountered a number of technical difficulties during the installation and testing process, but all the key issues have now been resolved. We appreciate your patience and look forward to assisting you with your imaging projects. For further information on how to get started with your project, please contact our high field development engineer Bob Bussell.
April 7, 2011 - Updated Schedule for 7T Installation.
The new 7T Bruker magnet is scheduled to be delivered on Saturday April 16. The installation, calibration, and testing process will take about 1 month, and so we expect that the magnet will be available for studies by mid to late May.
April 7, 2011 - Safety Training for 7T Users.
All researchers who plan to work in the 7T magnet environment are required to be safety certified. The first step in the process is to attend the safety lecture. Lectures are offered about every 6 weeks, and the next one is offered next Tuesday, April 12. Note that researchers who are not safety certified will not be permitted to enter the 7T magnet room. If you are planning on conducting studies on the 7T soon, please make sure to attend the next safety lecture. Details on registration are available at http://fmri.ucsd.edu/event/safetylectures.php.
April 7, 2011 - Appointment of 7T Engineer.
We are very pleased to announce that Bob Bussell has joined our team as an Associate Development Engineer. Bob has a Ph.D. in NMR physics from Cornell University and will manage all aspects of the technical operations of the 7T. He will work with researchers to optimize their imaging protocols and also conduct training for new operators. Bob's e-mail address is rbussell@ucsd.edu. If you have any questions about the 7T program, please do not hesitate to contact him.
