Getting Started

Doing Research at the fMRI center (in a nutshell)

  1. Submit a proposal (link http://fmri.ucsd.edu/forms.html)

    1. Once approved the following accounts will be created
      1. Webschedule for scheduling research time and reporting scanner related problems.
      2. Server for data transfer. (instructions available @ http://fmri.ucsd.edu/info/data-transfer.html)
      3. Request an exam room scheduling account if needed (email eghobrial@ucsd.edu) .
      4. Request Parking reservation scheduling account if needed (email pywong@ucsd.edu).
    2. Note that you will need to identify who will be the scanner operators for your project (see below for procedures to become a certified operator).
  2. Safety Training

    1. Fill out the online registration form before safety lecture (https://cfmriweb.ucsd.edu/cfmri-training)
    2. Attend safety training lecture. Note: You must bring a printed copy of the safety manual (PDF) and supplementary guidelines (PDF).
    3. Pass the online test (https://cfmriweb.ucsd.edu/etraining).
    4. We encourage everyone to attend the safety lecture even if they do not need the official training.
  3. Operator Training

    1. Complete Step 2.
    2. The project PI must send a request for you to be trained (link https://cfmriweb.ucsd.edu/operator-training/).
    3. Complete operator hands on training.
    4. PI must email Eman Ghobrial eghobrial@ucsd.edu requesting that the operator be added to one of their reseach projects on the webschedule database.
    5. After hours and weekend access to the bldg is given only to certified operators who have completed all of the above requirements.
    6. Operators should have the CFMRI Access Request Form (Online application) completed once they have been signed off by CFMRI Staff
    7. Only those who have been officially safety-trained may enter the magnet rooms.
