Troubleshooting peripheral devices

  • RT Intercom does not work.
The most common problem is that the audio cable attached to the “command” unit is disconnected from the RF filter on the penetration panel (labeled Audio on the panel). If this does not help, check cable connections in the scanner room.

  • Pressing response box keys produces no light on the interface box.
The most common problem is that the internet-like cable that connects to the interface box is disconnected from the opto-electronic converter (long black stick with an internet-like socket on one side and an fiber-optic cable on the other side).

  • Pressing response box keys produces light on the interface box but no input is produced in a text-editor window of my stimulus PC/Mac.
Check whether additional red lights are constantly on on the interface box. This indicates broken optical fibers and thus the box needs to be repaired.
Otherwise, check that the switch is set on “LumiTouch” rather than keyboard, a PS/2 (PC keyboard) cable is connected to the interface box. In case of using USB inputs via PS/2->USB adapter, disconnect the USB cable and connect it back.

  • When I connect RT joystick to my PC the mouse cursor is not affected by the joystick.
Make sure that the latest joystick driver is installed. Mac and PC drivers can be found on the Resonance Technology web site:

  • When I connect RT joystick via the penetration panel to my PC the mouse cursor drifts to one corner of the screen and does not respond normally to the joystick.
This is an indication that the cable grounds are not continuous from joystick to the interface box. Make sure that grounding across all connectors is preserved. This entails inserting washers on the screws securing the connectors.

  • Projector shuts down after 20-30 min.
This problem occurs with the Dell projector (living on the lower shelf): the projector may overheat and shut down in case there’s insufficient circulation of cooling air. Make sure that the fan mounted next to the projector is turned on. In case the mounted fan is unavailable use a big stand-alone fan (can be found in the prep room between the scanners): direct the air stream into the projector cabinet (with doors open).

  • RT headphones produce loud crackling sound.
This occurs when listening to sound with a wrong input channel selected. For example, when the stereo unit is on, but the Audio Input Selector  on the RT control unit (big white flat box with a button and 2 green LEDs on the left) is set to Video. Simply press the button to switch the inputs.
