How To
Physiological Monitoring System FAQ
- What are the available options on the 3Ts at CFMRI for physiological monitoring?
- How do I do physiological monitoring on the 3Ts?
- How do I remove physiological noise from fMRI data?
- How do I purchase the BIOPAC respirtory belt?
We currently have two availbale physiological monitoring system on the 3T scanners: a Labview-based Patient Monitoring System and a GE Built-in System. The table below compairs the functionality of the two systems.
| Labview-based System | GE Built-in System | |
| Capabilities | Pulse Oxymetry Respiratory effort ECG End-tidal CO2 Blood Pressure |
Pulse Respiratory effort ECG |
| Setup Time | 5 min (easy) | 2 min (very easy) |
| Recording file type | One text file per scan, or One text file per session |
One text file per scan |
| Recording length | unlimited (but limited by the memory size and hard disk space of the computer) | 25 minutes per recording |
| Post Processing files | Physio (Matlab) | physioGE (Matlab) |

Instructions on ordering respiratory belt from BioPAC(www.biopac.com):
Product name: respiratory effort transducer
Product ID: TSD 201
Unit price: $195 (may change)
To order, use one of the following (online order is not available yet ):
Phone: (805)685-0066
Fax: (805)685-0067
Email: sales@biopac.com
Note : Groups that use the respiratory belt for physiological monitoring purpose will need to purchase their own belt (Effective date: 06/01/2006).
Due to frequent breaking of the respiratory belt caused by operator errors, Center for fMRI has decided to stop providing the respiratory belt for physiological monitoring purpose starting from06/01/2006 . Groups that need the respiratory belt for their experiments will need to purchase the belt from BIOPAC directly (see instruction below; each belt costs $195). The Center will maintain two belts (one for each scanner) only for training and as emergency backups. If you need to check out these belts, please contact Cecelia ( cecelia@ucsd.edu or ext. 20584) or Center Staff ( cfmri@ucsd.edu or ext. 20513). We appreciate your understanding of the needs to introduce such a change.
